Session Information

We Built This City, ELECTRI International Research Project

Session Type: Management
Track Number: M-10
Location: MPLC
Room: E351
Speaker: Perry Daneshgari

Date: Monday, October 06, 2008
Time: 8:00 AM - 8:50 AM

Description:

The operational and managerial differences between union and open shop electrical contractors are the primary main contributors accelerating the erosion of the unionized market share in large cities.  Contrary to common perception, the main difference between the two styles of operation is not the labor cost, but, rather, how the labor is managed.  The cost of labor and its uncertainty is primarily driven by management practices.  These differences have had major impact on unionized electrical contractors’ market share in large cities.   The differences appear most prominently in terms of jobsite management and the consistent application of processes.
