Description:
Power reliability is more important now than ever before. As our ever-increasing energy needs place a heavy burden on an aging electricity infrstructure and concerns about emissions and reducing our carbon footprint continue to grow, many in government and industry are looking to new and advanced technologies to meet their power needs. Fuel cells are a promising option and for certain applications, they are available for purchase today. They operate quietly, have no emissions, and with few moving parts, require little maintenance and can be monitored remotely. For prime power or critical loads, fuel cells provide clean, high-quality power independent of the grid. Fuel cells for emergency backup power offer a long, continuous runtime, great durability in outdoor environments under a range of temperature conditions, and perhaps most important, can offer significant lifecycle cost advantages over both battery-generator systems and battery-only systems. This presentation will provide a quick review of fuel cell basics, information about commercially available fuel cell products and examples of real-world use today.
